Raw-fed Tripawds who are thinking about becoming therapy dogs, take note:
The Delta Society has prohibited their members’ therapy dogs from participating as therapy dogs if they are raw fed, or even live in a home where any of the dogs are raw fed. According to The Delta Society,
After careful consideration of known scientific facts, and on the unanimous advice of the Delta Society Medical Advisory Group . . . the Board of Directors voted to preclude animals eating raw protein foods from participating in Delta Society’s Pet Partners program. This was a phased program beginning in mid May, with complete compliance structured to be in place by June 30, 2010. This policy affects all Pet Partners, regardless of species or breed.
Some pet bloggers are saying that the new policy might have been influenced by a member of the Delta Society’s board of directors, who happens to be the marketing director of Nestle Purina. Coincidentally, after the controversy erupted, the Delta Society launched new therapy dogs uniforms that now include a Purina pet food logo. Hmmm . . .makes you wonder.
